Let’s be honest, being a dad can be tricky business. As part of our Father’s day celebrations this year, we wanted to celebrate the dads who still manage to keep their cool persona, despite the dramas of fatherhood. Let’s be honest, “baby sick stained T-shirt” is a pretty hard look to pull off… We asked the nation who they thought was Britain’s coolest celebrity dad, and here’s the top 10:
10 – Noel Gallagher
The Mancunian dad of three was a big hitter in the north, with almost half of his votes coming from Yorkshire and the North east.
9 – Gordon Ramsay
The father of 3 has recently made headlines for his no-nonsense approach to parenting. Despite being the world’s highest paid celebrity chef (worth around £50m) there’s certainly no spoiling going on in the Ramsay household. He wants his kids to understand the value of money, so he expects them to work hard and earn their own. Fair play Gordon!
8 – Rod Stewart
Despite his age, Rod certainly isn’t struggling when it comes to coolness; what other 72 year could pull off that hair!?
7 – Mo Farah
Olympic champion, dad of 4, and all around nice guy. We’re happy to see Mo in the top 10!
6 – Robbie Williams
A dad of 2, Robbie does his best to keep his kids away from the limelight. Most of Robbie’s votes came in from Scotland and the South east; he’s also popular amongst the ladies.
5 – Rio Ferdinand
After the tragic death of his wife, Rebecca in 2015, Rio’s been putting his all into being both dad and mum to his 3 kids. A well deserved place in the top 5!
4 – Jamie Oliver
The dad of 4, and healthy eating enthusiast is equally as popular amongst both men and women, with the majority of his votes coming from London and the South east.
3 – Tom Hardy
Coming in at 3rd place is on-screen bad boy, Tom Hardy. Tom’s coolness was escalated to new levels when he gave us a glimpse of his softer side, sending mum’s across the nation into a Twitter frenzy with his raspy renditions of bedtime stories on CBbees.
Unsurprisingly, Tom was considered coolest by the ladies (6.4%), with our menfolk not far behind giving him 4.5% of the vote.
2 – Prince William
Although he missed the crowning spot this time, 1 in 10 of us voted him as the nation’s number 1. Paving the way for the next generation of Royal dads, The Duke of Cambridge is changing perceptions with his ‘hands on’ manor, warm attitude, and thoroughly modern approach to fatherhood. Despite his royal status, the Prince isn’t afraid to poke a bit of fun at himself, recently joking about his “dad dancing” in an interview with Radio 1.
A fifth of us age 45 – 55+ voted William top of the cool charts; he is also royally popular with the Welsh, winning over 10% of the vote, closely and equally followed by East Anglia, the North East, and Northern Ireland.
1 – David Beckham
Is there anything that this man can’t do!? Despite being one of the biggest superstars in the world, he’s never one to take himself too seriously. After being crowned “sexiest man alive” by People magazine back in 2015, his response was simply “I never feel that I’m an attractive, sexy person. I mean I like to wear nice clothes and nice suits and look and feel good, but I don’t ever think of myself that way.” Come on David, give yourself a bit of credit!
He’s not afraid to play the “embarrassing dad” role either, as we saw from his recent trolling on son Brooklyn’s Instagram. David’s look has evolved massively over the years, from long hair to short hair, bearded to clean shaven. He has this incredible ability to pull off even the most questionable of hair styles – remember the Mohawk phase?
Over a quarter of the female population have given him the top spot, while 1 in 5 of UK males gave him their vote. He is most popular in the North West, loosely followed by Yorkshire and the Humber, and is joint favourite with Londoners and the North East. David, you’re a well deserved winner in our books!
